The Problem With Happiness
Inspiration of the Day
“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, or worn. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.”

So Now What?
As physical beings a lot of us have a tendency to look for physical means in order to be happy. This isn’t such an odd idea as there seems to be many things in the physical world that make us happy. Falling in love, receiving a cool gift, giving a cool gift, eating at your favorite restaurant, getting a great job, getting a raise, and on and on.
Yet we’ve all experienced the happiness-as-a-result-of-outside-circumstances fade and disappear. Then like happiness addicts we go in search of our next joyous fix.
Maybe those temporary feelings of joy weren’t really happiness. Maybe those feelings are just temporary emotions our minds have delveloped over thousands and thousands of years to help the human species survive and carry on in a life that can be very difficult at times.
So how does one attain real happiness? The same way gurus, master trainers, guides, coaches, and shamans have been teaching for years…you must find happiness not in the outside physical world but by going inside.
As Denis Waitley said above: It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.
Not easy to do when you’re surrounded by idiots, jerks and fools at work, on the highway, at parties and dare I say at family reunions.
Not easy when you have health problems, money issues, relationship troubles, and days filled with frustration, anger and depression.
So, again, how does one attain real happiness? Like any skill (and yes happiness is a skill) you have to work at it and train for it.
The same training that was going on thousands of years ago to create peace and happiness within still works today.
Meditation, feelings of love toward yourself (!) and others, feelings of gratitude for the small things and the big.
You also have to catch yourself in the moment of anger and depression so that you can turn it around, not unlike catching yourself reaching into the cookie jar when you want to loose weight.
Like I’ve said before this is work. But how badly do you want to create true happiness in your life?
It is possible to retrain your brain at any age. Just be sure and take some time to cultivate happiness within everyday.
